One of my favorite things about running is the boundaries that it allows us to cross
Not just the physical challenges but the personal ones. It still amazes me the things people will talk about on a group run.Granted, these are people we spend a lot of time and miles with.
There is something about running that pulls back the curtain of insecurities and tears down the walls that we put up in the rest of our lives.
It is no wonder that some of the strongest friendships I've formed were formed on a long run
Maybe because we share the pain and struggle mile after mile it makes it easier to share our other struggles and successes in life. I know that running allows me to be an open person and an allows me to see others from another perspective. Things that we would never share in a public setting just seem to come blurting out on the run. I really don't know why we open up so easily with our training partners. I do know that it is one of the things I enjoy the most about my training partners. There is a saying that goes
You truly never get to know someone until you walk a mile in their shoes
I would change that to ,
You truly get know someone when you run mile after mile with them in your shoes
