Goals

Beginning of a new year,


Here we are again.  This time of year is always bitter-sweet for me. Although I look towards the New Year with determination, excitement, and hope.
I also reflect on the past year. I am filled with many emotions. I struggled and overcame many hardships this year. I experienced even more times of joy and thankfulness.
I don't recall the hours spent working or the details of the projects I worked on throughout the year. I remember the faces, the smiles, the tears, and determination of those around me. The moments we share with our families, our friends, our community, are the threads that weave our experiences and provide the nourishment we need to grow as people. These are the things I will carry with me into the New Year. The rest I will leave in 2016

Setting goals will give you a road map that will set the tone for the way you approach your training

You can build from one training block to the next a purpose driven plan will help keep you on track and give you milestones along the way. I like to the think of my goals as a rough draft of how I would like my year to shape up.  It's fluid, some if not most of the details may change along the way but the bulk of the year will be focused on one area of my running. The details will be the periods and goals I set along the way that support the area I am focused on growing in my running.  That can be race time, distance, etc... Some may choose things like, " I want to run 6 races in 6 different states".  Another may choose " I want to run a 1/2 marathon for all the 4 seasons".  The goals do not and should not always revolve around race times.  

Set realistic challenging goals   

The direction you would like to take your running is entirely up to you. Take some time, right a few goals down and ask for some suggestions from your friends and take your time deciding.  Once you have them put it in writing to yourself. Look at it often to keep yourself focused and excited about the choices you have made for your running this year.

There is nothing quite like the beginning of a New Year

There is so much excitement and so much enthusiasm.  Each New Year brings new possibilities and adventures.  Indulge in them, get excited, share them with your family, friends, and running buddies!  We all can start anew and mold our lives, our running into the vision we have for our future.

Share you dreams with others

The encouragement and support we get along the way will carry us through the hard times and lift us even higher in the good. Have high expectations, strong determination, and most of all have fun! I DARE you to change your life this year!
